Bearing of TT slabs or beams without concrete consoles or notched components

If TT slabs are placed on the top surface of supporting beams, the structural height of the floor becomes almost unbearable. The traditional method of connecting TT slabs to supporting beams or connecting secondary beams to primary beams is to equip supporting beams with flanges and create notched ends on the TT slabs or secondary beams. But this solution often causes problems of concrete cracking as a result of undesired concentration of stresses at the re-entrant corner of the supporting area of the TT slabs or secondary beams.

How does the Peikko solution work?
The PBH corbel is essentially a steel assembly that will be mounted in the reinforcement cage of a TT slab or an ancillary beam that is subsequently cast in a prefab factory. When the TT slab or the ancillary beam is later to be installed on-site, the PBH corbel creates a horizontal steel beam with an open-cross section bridging the gap between the head of the TT slab or the ancillary beam and the supporting girder – no concrete consoles are needed. PBH corbels are designed to handle transient situations during assembly of TT slabs and the final stage when the cast-in-situ concrete topping has hardened.
